After reading few reviews, wedecided to stop there for lunch. I need to say, first impression from the menu was a bit strange - kind of cheap chinese restaurant like... but after that, everything was as it should be - from the first contact with the staff to the quality and the quantity of all meals. Place is in almost perfect location and it is nice and clean. It is not fancy, but it was obvious before going there so no surprise at all. Can we recommend? Yes, we can ;-)

The staff are extremely friendly. Some of them don't fully understand English but they try their best. The drinks orders are fast and the food also doesn't take too long. I've seen some reviews point out that the bread isn't complimentary but we did not get charged for it so I think there is some confusion. I would however happily pay for the bread if they ask me if I would like it but that it would be at a certain price because the bread is very fresh and really delicious. The atmosphere is also very nice. I had the Dorado and my wife the seafood pasta and both were very good. The Dorado fish was very well cooked. I would simply add a sauce (maybe on the side) like a garlic butter or so since that would make it a 10/10 (they do have sauce you can order on the menu). I took my fish with fries rather than the spinach. My wife's seafood pasta was also very good. Overall it was a good option. Since we had a hard time finding updated prices for the menu, I decided to post them.

Excellent. We ordered Burgers. They were huge and Delicious! Mine had blue cheese - which was a generous slab of cheese. We ate on the patio which was comfortable and breezy. Service was friendly. Free parking. Free appetizer of bread, Olives and home made aioli.

If you like down-to-earth food, I can only recommend this place. Starters were great (charcuterie, filled paprika), we had an awesome pizza and the waitress had a perfect wine for us. And the location between the main plaza and the sea is just a dream. Go here!

We had a truly disappointing experience at this restaurant. We ordered the "Steak Festina Lente," expecting, as the menu suggested, a proper steak dish. What we received, however, was nothing close to steak. We sent it back, only to be told that Steak Festina Lente was actually the name of the restaurant and that the dish was beef tagliata instead, normally also a nice steak. And to make matters worse, they still charged us for it in the end. The pizza was another letdown—undercooked and far from appetizing. The fries were soggy and flavorless, and the chicken schnitzel was mediocre at best. Overall, this was not only the most expensive meal we had during our holiday but also the worst by far. Poor food, poor service, and definitely not worth the money. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Very friendly staff, nice authentic ambiance, excellent meat and fish specialties with local Istrian spices. The meat here has a taste and aroma, it is clear that the owners only purchase local meat from local butchers and fishermen. The portions are very large and the food is excellently spiced. At the end of the dinner we received excellent brandy and teranino on the owner's account. The prices are very reasonable considering the quality of the food. All recommendations!

At first this restaurant caught our attention, the inside was large and moody. Especially during Christmas time with decorative lights. However the waitress was confused/lost? She had to ask us multiple times for our side dish even though she had written it down. In the end it’s safe to assume that she got it wrong again because our food came separately and by the time one was already halfway done, the other just got their plate. The food was okay but there’s more room for improvement. Overall it wasn’t bad but not my go-to restaurant if I want to eat some seafood specials.

I've been to the Nomu restaurant many times in Zagreb and it's always been amazing, so I was really excited to try the one in Novigrad for the first time. The quality is just as great, sushi and fish are super fresh and tasty, the sea view is beautiful and the service is excellent. Worth every penny!

It was our first visít in a Japanese Restaurant. That was a good choice. The waiter was really kind, not too much, but always available. Honestly, the duck wasn’t remarkably outstanding, I recommend to choose other dishes. Beef gyoza was surprisingly delicious. We ordered one more after tasted it. Sushi and Wok chicken also met our expectations or more. The crown of our dinner was the dessert. Lava cake, cheesecake and mochi were perfect. The atmosphere is really relaxing and it’s like you were in a whole’nother peaceful planet. I highly recommend this place!!!

The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere and offers a very pleasant place to sit and enjoy a meal. Unlike some restaurants in Novigrad, it doesn’t have a direct seaside location, but this is more than compensated by the excellent quality of the food. I ordered the beef steak with truffles while my girlfriend chose the grilled scampi, and both dishes were prepared perfectly and tasted outstanding. Service in Croatia can sometimes feel a bit different from what we are used to, and not always as attentive. However, this was not the case at Alta Marea. The staff were friendly and caring, professional, and spoke several languages well, which made the whole experience even smoother. To sum up, I was very satisfied with our visit and I would be more than happy to return in the future.

The Alta marea tavern surprised us very positively today. Finally, we had a good or I should say very tasty dinner in Novigrad. The tris appetizer was excellent, just the right amount of seasoning and a large portion. The tuna and squid were griled perfectly, still soft as butter. We enjoyed a pleasant evening with a good wine also. Now I know where we will go for delicious food.The staff is extremely friendly and helpful.

After reading all the recommendations and comments, we decided to try the seafood risotto. Unfortunately, it was a disappointment. I had high hopes because it looked nice, but the taste was not good – the squid was rubbery, and the only enjoyable part were the mussels. We also ordered a Greek salad, which was another letdown, especially for €7. It honestly felt like something I could have made at home. The vegetables seemed randomly thrown together, cut into strange uneven pieces. In total, we paid €45, and it simply wasn’t worth it. There are many better food options around Novigrad. I won’t be coming back, despite the very friendly staff and beautiful location – those were the only positives.

Highly recommend this place! We enjoyed our stay here after an all day travel to Novigrad. Staff was very friendly and all the guests were served as soon as they arrived. We stumbled across this restaurant by accident, thinking it was a Café. When we realised they had a food menu, we decided to give the food a try. The waiters were very kind and worked with haste, yet giving a calming and welcoming feel. The food arrived very fast and looked really appetising, which it definitely was. Their dishes are obviously made with care and feeling, this you can tell. Hands down one of the nicest restaurants regarding food and atmosphere. We went here during winter and still, it was sunny and relaxing. The price was reasonable and honestly fair for the quality. Would definitely visit again!

The place is spacious, has an ice cream store inside the restaurant … views are nice. Food was ok nothing amazing, mostly sea food, Mediterranean and Croatian food in their menu…..prices are average… you can pay with card or cash.

First: The food is worth its money and delicious. BUT: Bad service. They took minimum 50 minutes to get my food served and additional 15 minutes to order food. I'd be okay with the waiting time if I was told before, but they didn't. That's totally not acceptable, I'm sorry. No apologies from the waiter for that and when paying, I didn't get a receipt, which in Croatia isnt according to the law. Won't come back in busy hours. Keep away when the outside seating is almost full if you're hungry.

A truly memorable dining experience – just not for the food. Tried to order mussels, but was instead given a cultural lesson: apparently, “Germans don’t know how to eat fish.” The advice? Choose something else. Hospitality at its finest. In the end, I was served their signature dish: absolutely nothing. Possibly the safest option on the menu. My friend took a risk with the "Bolognese" – pictured here in all its glory. He managed a few bites before surrendering. A valiant effort. Broken fridge added a refreshing twist to the ambiance. Lovely garden, though. Perfect if you’re only looking for plants and low expectations.
